Distance Learning programmes open for registration throughout the year.

Certification in Humanitarian Logistics (CHL) is offered as part of the Fritz Institute/CILT (UK) Humanitarian ogistics Certification Program. It combines best practices in supply chain management and implementation from the humanitarian community, commercial world, and academia. The pioneering program meets the need across the humanitarian sector for accessible, cost-effective training for active logistics professionals, who play a vital role in their organization’s success.

CHL is aimed at people who work (or aspire to work) within humanitarian aid organizations in (or interacting with) supply functions, typically involving warehousing, transport and/or inventory. The self-paced distance learning is designed specifically for those presently working, often in deep field locations, with busy schedules, and require flexibility in their learning schedules. There are no academic pre-requisites. CHL has come to be recognised as the leading programme for logisticians both already working in the field and those who wish to join humanitarian organisations.

The CHL programme consists of seven units:

  • Humanitarian Aid Supply Chains
  • Warehousing and Inventory
  • Procurement
  • Transport
  • Fleet Management

Cash Transfer Programming (CTP) Awards from LLA

CILT Awards in Cash Transfer Programming

For humanitarian aid agencies there is an increasing trend to develop cash transfer mechanisms to people in need rather than direct aid. While this give the recipients more freedom of choice, it is also a stimulus to maintain local supply chains.

In recent years, Cash Transfer Programming (CTP) has emerged as one of the most significant innovations in international humanitarian assistance. By 2015, two billion dollars was spent on cash and vouchers and the global trend is increasing. The benefits of CTP have been shown to cut across multiple sectors to address women’s empowerment, food security, emissions reduction, education and healthcare. While CTP is widely recognised to be an essential tool to enhance humanitarian responses, it is not a silver bullet or panacea.

To meet this demand, Logistics Learning Alliance, a leading provider of humanitarian logistics and supply chain courses, have designed two new Awards in CTP, which also forms part of the recently revised Certification in Humanitarian Logistics (CHL) and Certification in Humanitarian Supply Chain Management (CHSCM) Programmes.

Supply Chain Managers and Logisticians have a key role to play in both establishing these mechanisms and also in assessing the robustness of the local supply chain to support this modality. It was felt by the Certification Advisory Group that the CHL and CHSCM programmes should reflect this content.

Designed for those who need to have a greater understanding of how to implement Cash Transfer programmes and for Graduates of the Certification in Logistics or Supply Chain Management programmes.

CHL CTP Award

The first line humanitarian logistician has a key role to play in establishing and implementing CTP programmes. This Award is also a part of the CHL programme.

CHSCM CTP Award

Selecting the right modality to meet beneficiary needs and ensuring that, programme-wide, it can be safely established and implemented are a key supply-chain responsibility. This Award is also a part of the CHSCM programme.

Course duration

3-6 months (based on average study time of 5 hours per week)

How to register

Average course durations
CHL CTP Award – 3-6 months if student can submit one assignment per week

CHSCM CTP Award – 6-9 months if student can submit one assignment every two weeks
